Conundrum

She says she just wants space
but I know it’s a hopeless case…
She says she just wants space
but what she really wants is to leave this race.

For a while she’ll pretend,
out of courtesy to me,
that she’s just out there trying
to find her way back to me.
But soon she’ll grow tired
of this old ball and chain,
and begin to notice everything
that a single goodbye could help her gain…
And she’ll leave for good,
breaking my heart
and she’ll leave me behind
to pick up the damned pieces…

She says she just wants space
but I know it’s a hopeless case…
She says she just wants space
but what she really wants is to leave this race.

I saw it coming, the other day
as she gazed at the sunset with wandering eyes.
I know she was thinking of leaving me,
she was looking for a way to say goodbye.
Her eyes glistened with hope
of new and exciting journeys to come...
Journeys that can’t include me...
How can I hold her back now,
knowing that it’s her destiny
to become much, much more
than she ever could become, with me?

She says she just wants space
but I know it’s a hopeless case…
She says she just wants space
but what she really wants is to leave this race.

She says she just wants space…
She says she just wants space…
But I know the truth,
what she really wants is to leave both me, and this place!
